SCOPE OF TRAINING: In a class-room/shop environment, students are taught to inspect, service, lubricate, replace, remove, install, adjust, test, purge, and troubleshoot components and controls of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems on the M2/M3A2 BFV, M9OlAl ITV and M981 FISTV vehicle turrets; preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS); special tools and test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE); and common maintenance subjects.
PREREQUISITES:
Must be a member of Active Army, Army National Guard or Army Reserve Component.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Be a male soldier. (MOS not open to women.)
2. Have a physical profile no less than 222222.
3. Possess normal color vision.
4. Must possess finger dexterity in both hands
The 45T Course encompasses 5 Annexes. Annex A, Common Subjects, consists of 30 hours of training on maintenance publications, maintenance procedures, tools, and test measurement and diagnostic equipment. Annex B consists of 208 hours of training on the BFV M2/M3, Bradley Fighting Vehicle. During this annex, students learn how to troubleshoot, service, replace, repair, purge and adjust turret components. Annex C consists of 32 hours of Training on the M242, 25MM Automatic Gun. During Annex C, students learn how to how to troubleshoot, inspect, lubricate, repair, service, and replace components of the M242, 25-MM automatic gun. Annex D consists of 84 hours of training on the M901 Improved Tow Vehicle (ITV) and the M981 Fire Support Vehicle turrets.
TRAINING AND EXAMINATION PRCEDURES
Training is conducted in two ways, in large groups and small groups using the hands-on method of instruction. During Annex A, most of the classes are conducted in large groups. However, all other training in the lab are done in small groups of about 4 individuals. The progressive/sequential testing method is used during examination periods. Progressive testing contains tasks from the last unit of instruction, and includes tasks randomly selected from other instructional areas already taught. Sequential tests are designed to increase in the level of difficulty as the course progresses. Each student is graded on a Go/NoGo basis. A student will receive a NoGo if he:
(a) Does not meet standard specified for each requirement performed.
(b) Exceeds time limit.
(c) Violates safety rules and guidelines..
(d) Damages equipment or causes injury to personnel.
(e) Performs procedures out of sequence.
Each student is authorized two attempts to attain the minimum passing score. The passing score on any written examination or requirement is 70% or higher. Students who make 69% or less will receive a NO-GO, but maybe authorized a retest. Students who pass the retest will be credited with a 70% grade only, regardless of their score.
EXCELLENCE IN MAINTENANCE PROGRAM (EIM)
The Excellence in Maintenance program (EIM) provides selected soldiers who have demonstrated leadership potential, desire and the ability to learn and are highly motivated more in depth training. To be eligible, candidates must recommend candidates by an instructor. Each EIM students receive additional training on selected MOS subjects.
